New Electrical Installation
A new electrical installation is new work rather than a repair: an extension, a garage, a garden room or a whole new build being given power from nothing.

When do you need a new installation?
A new electrical installation means work in a space that has no supply yet, or one changing so much that the existing installation no longer covers it. That is different from a rewire, where existing cable is replaced.
The situations we see most often:
- An extension or conservatory being connected to the existing installation
- A garage, shed or garden room that needs power running to it
- A loft conversion into a bedroom, office or bathroom
- New build where the whole installation still has to be put in
- A relocated kitchen that needs its own circuits
What the work actually involves
New installation work is more than pulling cable. The number of circuits has to match what will eventually run on them, the RCD protection has to be the right type, and the consumer unit has to be able to take the additional circuits. For an outdoor space, add weatherproof accessories and the correct burial depth for cable.
We look at those together. There is no point connecting a garden room if the consumer unit is already full — then extending or upgrading the supply is the first job, not the last.
What determines the price?
- The number of circuits, sockets and lighting points
- The distance from the consumer unit to the new space
- Whether chasing or excavation is needed, or the cable can be surface-run
- Whether the consumer unit needs extending or the supply upgrading
The survey is free and you receive one fixed price covering materials, labour, making good and the inspection report.
Working alongside your builder
On a renovation we are happy to fit into the builder’s programme. Cable goes in before the walls close up, which saves chasing and cost. Give us their details and we will coordinate directly.
