When is rewiring needed?
Wiring has a working life. In properties built before roughly 1975 the original cabling is often still in place, sized for a household that used a fraction of today’s electricity.
- Rubber or fabric-sheathed cable that has gone brittle
- No earth conductor in bedrooms or living rooms
- Extension leads in permanent use because there are too few sockets
- A consumer unit that cannot take any more circuits
- Planned works: a new kitchen, a loft conversion, an extension
What a full renewal covers
We replace the wiring throughout, install a new consumer unit with enough circuits and RCD protection, add sockets and switches where you actually need them, and connect lighting. On completion you receive an inspection report and a labelled distribution board.
What determines the price
- The floor area and the number of rooms
- Whether existing conduit can be reused, which avoids most of the chasing
- The number of sockets and light points you want
- Whether the supply and consumer unit need upgrading as well
The survey is free. You get one fixed price covering materials, labour, making good and the inspection report.
Working in an occupied home
Most of our renovations happen in properties people are still living in. We work room by room, keep power on where we can, sheet up and clear away at the end of each day.
Frequently asked questions about rewiring netherlands
Can I stay in the house during the work?
In almost all cases yes. We work room by room and keep at least part of the property powered, so you are never without electricity for a whole day.
Does everything have to be chased out?
Not always. Where the existing conduit is intact we can often pull new cable through it, which saves a great deal of chasing and making good.
How long does a rewire take?
A terraced house typically takes three to five working days. We confirm the schedule before starting.
Can the work be phased?
Yes. Many customers start with the consumer unit and the kitchen circuits, then do the rest later. We plan it so nothing has to be redone.
Is there a warranty?
Yes, on both materials and workmanship, and you receive an inspection report to NEN 1010.
